Sugen Pillay
CEO & Founder
Sugen Pillay has over 27 years of experience in business development, access to finance, and sponsorship management. He has significant experience in managing large-scale budgets such as the National Tourism Poverty Relief Fund, the European Union Local Economic Development Fund, and event sponsorship funding for South African Tourism. This experience has assisted him to understand the needs of financial institutions and large corporates when funding or sponsoring events and projects. Using this knowledge and skills he succeeded in securing over R70 million in sponsorship funds for major events hosted in South Africa. These include global brands such as World Travel Market Africa, Comicon Africa, and the Intra African Trade Fair 2020.
His experience managing large development funds has also enabled him to secure major tenders and contracts from government institutions. These include clients, amongst others, such as the Nelson Mandela Stadium, City of Tshwane, SASCOC, Gauteng Tourism Authority, and the Afreximbank.
As Fund Advisor to the European Union-funded local economic development programme in Kwa-Zulu Natal, he was instrumental in packaging financially viable projects to be funded by the EU. A key component of this assignment was the need to develop financially viable business plans that would ensure the sustainability of EU-funded projects.
Sugen holds a Master of Commerce Management degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Sociology at the University of Durban-Westville.
Sugen serves as Founder and Director of Biz-Help and is responsible for assessing business opportunities, providing strategic advice on the formulation of business plans and sponsorship proposals, and facilitating access to finance or sponsorship for client-owned events and projects.
